The Past:  Some of the game’s greatest players, golf immortals and distinguished world figures have trod the lush fairways of St. Charles and enjoyed its special ambience.

Harry Vardon played an exhibition game at the Club as did the talented and colourful Walter Hagen. The Duke of Windsor, a life-long golf addict, played St. Charles when he was the much loved Price of Wales.

The Canadian Open, a PGA Tour stop, brought many of North America’s best to St. Charles in 1952. Thirty years later one of the first Senior Tour events was featured. The Club has hosted most of the front-line tournaments played each year in Canada, starting with the Canadian Women’s Golf Championship in 1933. The Manitoba Open has been held at the Club on numerous occasions.
The first international victory for a Canadian golf team happened here at the Americas Golf Cup Team Match event in 1965 as the Club hosted players from Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. The course was selected in 1992 to host the 19th du Maurier Ltd. Classic.

As one of four major championships on the LPGA tour it attracted the top women professional golfers in the world. Again in 2000 St. Charles was called upon to host the AT&T Canada Senior Open. Jack Nicklaus graced this fine event by playing.
The Present:  Several golfing groups meet virtually every day. The Club’s staff is pleased to direct new members to the organizers of these groups.

Although the Club has an active golf membership, it isn’t difficult to reserve a tee-off time. With three nines in play at all times and a proven reservation system, members’ times are readily accommodated. The club’s website offers a tee reservation system where ballots can be placed up to 7 days in advance. Or, slips are available in the Pro Shop for members to fill in the day, date, names in their group and desired starting time.
This information may also be telephoned to the Pro Shop. Draws are made 3 days in advance. Members who haven’t entered a draw slip may contact the Pro Shop or access the website reservation system for any starting times still available.

A very active Ladies’ Section thrives at the Club, offering good companionship and all levels of competitiveness. Tuesday morning ladies golf is a St. Charles tradition.

Couples golf is very much part of the golfing scene, with special mixed events throughout the year, and the Junior program is considered among the best in the city, introducing young people to the game other Junior members.
